About

What we are about:

“Womanist is to feminist as purple is to lavender”. (Alice Walker)

Womanism is feminism for women of color.

Radical Subjectivity:

According to Floyd-Thomas, radical subjectivity is described as “bonds of learning and growth from mature to immature beings as a way to actualize agency and a subjective view of the world/self for black women, rather than see themselves as victims of circumstance. It gives the black woman a sense of identity that goes beyond racist, sexist, and classicism categories they are often unwillingly ascribed to”.

A major source of influence for this project was Emilie Townes, as she also attempts to positively redefine Black women stereotypes in her book, Womanist Ethics and the Cultural Production of Evil. This is an attempt on Townes behalf to empower Black women and fight against oppression.

Now, our team attempts to do the same thing. This site is meant to embody this idea of radical subjectivity in a fun and informative way.
